numerous people (including me) have commented on the amount of time compressing and downloading via Pando take. yep. its true. here are a couple simple suggestions for work flow…
- compressing: use the batch function of MPEG Streamclip. That way you can build a batch of files to convert to MPEG 4… and let them compress while you do other things ( or overnight)
- downloading: once you open a Pando package, it may take a while to download – especially if the package is big
- playback: if you are not a digital station (we are not), then you will need to somehow get the files to tape. my recommendation is to build another batch in MPEG Streamclip and ‘export to DV’. this will also take a while, but you can let it go in the background or overnight. The alternative is to drop the Mpeg-4 into your editing program (FCP, Premiere, iMovie) and hit render. This will also take a long time, and you will be able to do less while it is going on. thats why i prefer the first option.
those are some ideas… got more? add your comments!
Workflow HELP needed!!!
Hey, Everybody. Even though we are not a digital station, we have some digital capabilities, so I am being encouraged to provide the youth videos to playback in a digital format.
The problem is that they want them in MPEG-2 format, and I can’t seem to figure out a way to convert an MPEG-4 to an MPEG-2 directly.
The best I’ve managed so far is to use MPEGStreamclip to change the MPEG4 to a DV, and then use Compressor to change that file to an MPEG2. And compressor doesn’t give me many audio options, so I’d rather not use it.
Anybody know a good way to streamline this process? Any other digital stations out there that use MPEG-2? Help me out!
QT Pro
My first guess would be to use Quicktime Pro.
I know tehre’s an MPEG2 plug-in.
this would be the easiest solution….other thna getting your playback to accept other formats. Ultimately, we all need to get our playbacks to handle multiple video formats.
what are you using in Master Control?
Visual Hub?
hey gariet. thanks for posting to the forum! hopefully others will follow suit, and we will begin to use this as a place for asnwering practical quesitons like this as well as discussing the more philosophical ends of what we are undertaking.
SO – mpeg 2, eh.
My fiest thought is to try the program Visual Hub. it is about $20, but i believe it ahs the functionality you are looking for. (to go from mpeg-4 to mpeg-2. i have a version on my machine, so i will try it and see what the producet looks like. thing is, I dont know what specs you need for the mpeg 2 file, but i will have a look and see what happens. i will also fwd your post around to some folks who might be able to shed some insight.

VISUAL HUB — GO Nuts with the Newest Version
Regarding Visual Hub, I had tried this with an older version (MP4’s into MPEG2’s) and had pretty poor results. But I just downloaded the newest version and made a file with the slider set at Go Nuts and ended up something that looked okay (at around 7MBps).
