NYMAP Youth Video Exchange Network

2nd Annual SMART Festival

| |

Join us in Grand Rapids, Michigan on March 23-24, 2007  for

the second annual SMART Festival

as we promote New Media as an art form and offer educational outreach to both media artists and the public.

In 2005 two women from different countries (the United States and The Ceck Republic) started talking about sharing student work and encouraging an international exchange of the New Media that incorporates film, video and animation in exciting and creative ways.

The GRCMC is partnering again with area and international Universities for the second annual Student Media ART Festival (SMART).  Students creating film, video, animation, web design or any other type of new media, are invited to submit work which will be juried for inclusion in the festival screenings.   Everyone is invited to attend.

SMART’s mission is to break the stereotypes created by commercial media who’s basis for creative activity is false, not related to reality,  and above all monotonous.   We want to disrupt the influence mass media has on forming the tastes of the viewing public which predisposes them to accepting mediocrity and allowing mass media to dictate their way of thinking.

SMART is also a dedicated space for new media art to exist in an environment where it is not necessary to be “commercially” accepted.  It is a venue for presenting material that will cause the viewer to think about what they are watching, inspire wonder at what they are seeing and encourage them to try and understand why the art was created in the first place.  For more information see our website:  smart.grcmc.org
